How House Music Was Born?

The musical origins of House lie in the disco music of the late 1970s, with its influence particularly noticeable in harmony and melody. Frankie Knuckles was a DJ at the Warehouse in Chicago, where it became a common practice to include club mixes in disco maxis, featuring extended instrumental passages focused on rhythm. Knuckles observed that these rhythmic elements were what excited the guests the most, prompting him to blend them together and omit the rest of the record. Additionally, he noted, “Kraftwerk played a major role in the emergence of House Music in Chicago. In the early ’80s, I mixed our ’80s Philly sound with the electro beats of Kraftwerk and the Electronic Body Music bands of Europe.” Besides Knuckles, Marshall Jefferson, Jesse Saunders, and Chip E. are recognized as pioneers of Chicago House. Later, Detroit producers Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson embraced this newfound affinity for monotony, giving rise to Detroit Techno.
